Any advice for how to start writing? Like how to get the story started?

fuckyeahcharacterdevelopment: My advice is just to dive right in! Usually when I get a new idea, it’s just a scene or a character or a piece of dialogue. So I just put that down on paper and start writing, without thinking about the bigger picture. I write until I can’t write anymore, which is usually when questions start appearing like, ‘who is this character?’, ‘why did they end up there?’, ‘why would they do that for?’ Then I start to answer those questions.mehr …

Writing Advice: by Chuck Palahniuk In six seconds, you’ll hate me. But in six months, you’ll be a better writer. From this point forward—at least for the next half year—you may not use “thought” verbs. These include: Thinks, Knows, Understands, Realizes, Believes, Wants, Remembers, Imagines, Desires, and a hundred others you love to use. The list should also include: Loves and Hates. And it should include: Is and Has, but we’ll get to those later. Until some time around Christmas, mehr …

Romance Isn’t the Problem in YA Lit

12. Juli 2015 Schreiben lernen

fictionwritingtips: A lot of writers might argue that romance in YA lit is a boring old trope that needs to die. If you’re into reading YA lit, it’s been nearly impossible for you to avoid the “she was a normal girl until she met [insert cool boy character]”, but I’m here to argue that romance and love triangles aren’t necessarily the problem in young adult novels. 7. Juli 2015 Schreiben lernen

fuckyeahcharacterdevelopment: I’m not sure if you mean general advice, or if you want information relating to what it’s like to be female (as we did for an anon a little while back but vice versa), so I’ll do a bit of both. alloftheprompts: Anonymous said: Do you have any prompts for a duo (not necessarily romantic, though they could be) that are partners? Kind of like in Pacific Rim with its drift compatibility? One of them has been through a traumatic event. The characters are separated. The characters aren’t allowed to work together. One of the characters is trying to keep a secret from the other. For some reason, one of the characters doesn’t want to work with the other. A personmehr …

How to Punctuate Dialogue | The Editor’s Blog writeworld: By Beth Hill Dialogue has its own rules for punctuation. Commas go in particular places, as do terminal marks such as periods and question marks. Only what is spoken is within the quotation marks. Other parts of the same sentence—dialogue tags and action or thought—go outside the quotation marks. Dialogue begins with a capitalized word, no matter where in the sentence it begins. (Interrupted dialogue, when it resumes, is not capped.)mehr …
